On Straight Talk Money: A Conversation with a Short Seller

Earlier this week, Peggy Tuck and I interviewed short seller and forensic accountant John Del Vecchio. I call John the “Horatio Caine of finance” because he knows where the bodies are buried in the financial statements.

We discuss what exactly short selling is and how it’s different in real life than how it might be portrayed on Showtime’s Billions.

In the next segment, we dig into the details of what John looks for in a short. In short, he looks for signs of aggressive revenue recognition.

In the last segment, John and I compare shorting stocks to buying put options and discuss the pros and cons of each.
